Match report 8/17– What a difference 30 days make.

By Kevin Y

What a difference 30 days make. Last months top shooters failed to follow through this month, in fact those who started off strongest seem to be weakening. Is a change afoot? We had a nice turnout once again with +15 shooters showing up. The course was setup with the usual targets in the usual spots but someone (unnamed) was feeling a little sadistic and made lanes 10 & 11 a bit more difficult. 4 out of 6 targets were > .5 on the Troyer scale. There was a squirrel mounted up high at 27 yards with a 1/2 kz, the CA state bear with a 3/8 kz was against the back wall, and then there was the tunnel target du jour. Happiness is…

Welcome to New Shooters Daniel R and Dennis W hang in there you guys did great for your first time around. Now that you know what to expect it gets easier as you go. Bob and Tim it was good to see ya again. Spend the time to set up your guns so you know where it shoots at our ranges. hint 20-25 yards. Then work on the other ranges and practice as much as you can.

Bill H was on fire today, shooting his Steyr he took Top Gun and High score in PCP with a 39 out of 48. I briefly watched Bill go through lanes 10 and 11 and the itty-bitty kz’s didn’t seem to faze him. Tony and Lonnie tied for second with 37’s. The shoot off was on lane 5 with the Partridge placed at 22 yards with 3/8 kz. Lonnie went first; He took aim and split his pellet. Tony didn’t hesitate and took it out with one shot. Second goes to Tony, Lonnie gets third.

Other notables is that John L has been quietly sneaking up on the leaders and shot a very good 33.

With only 3 more matches left it looks to be quite a nail biter in PCP. Tony is the overall point leader, Greg in second with 127 but based upon projections both are vulnerable. With match averages of 38 by Lonnie, Tony at 37.8, Bill at 37 and Greg at 31.7 the numbers paint a very competitive race. Look for the winning score to be about 161 and Greg with a low average of 31 may be the odd man out.

In Springer land Pat took first with a 37, I got second with a 33 and Paul got third with a 29. Pat J leads the points race at 147 and boast an average of 34.2.  Doug B comes in at 106 and an average of 26.5. Paul Booker and Eric Ko are hot on his heels with averages of 26 and 23 respectfully. If Paul can shoot his average (26) for 2 more matches he would be in a virtual tie with Doug B at 104 vs 106. The early line out of Vegas is that Booker may look to unseat Doug B in the next match or 2.
