May 2011 Field Target Match

  May 15 FT Match Report

Well, Its May... and usually for us here in California that means some nice weather and the last few weeks here have been just that. Beautiful warm sunny weather!... and for this this month's Field Target match I was really looking forward to spending some time in it after our last few matches were wet and cold.

Unfortuneately, the weather forecast changed abrubtly a couple days before our match and once again, we found ourselves preparing for the possibility of a wet match. Fortuneately, we have some covered areas on our range that we can utilize for shooting lanes which makes the "wet FT experience" pretty bearable. Despite the less than optimal weather conditons, the last few matches have been well attended. Todays forecast didn't scare off our "Comrades in arms" either.

We had a few club memebers traveling this month for outside activities. However, with a few new shooters in the mix this year, and a couple visitors from the Sacremento club, we still had nearly 20 people show up. A couple chose to observe. Two shooters had equipments issues and could not finish the match. In the end there were 15 participants on the scoreboard and we even had 3 people for the Pistol Field Target standoff after our post match BBQ!

Douglass joined us this month again and was working on sighting in an AAS400Carbine. Nice form and a good looking classic FT position there Douglass!! He was hitting empty 9mm casings off a shelf at 20 yards after he finally got that sighted in.

I first met met George here last month at our Golf match and had the pleasure to be squadded with him for our match. George shoots AP at our club and picked up his Marauder rifle to handle a ground squirrel problem in his back yard. Apparently, that M-rod was pretty efffective. I learned during the match that he no longer has a GS problem. Now he's looking for something else to shoot at so he came to check out Field target. happy.gif

Manny came with Rizalde and shot a pretty strong match with Riz's Logun Solo hunter style!

There was some pretty good shooting going on during this match. Thankfully, the rain stayed off from us until we finished packing up for the day. But the wind was quite prevalent and even down right blustery at times during the match. I had a hec of a time with it myself. But I noticed some pretty good scores on the board when I got inside to post them. Nice job guys!!

Scores were as such: /46

In Piston Class:
Jim R. 38 (hunter style)   Pulled target
Son L. 34
Eric K. 28
Doug B. 28
Roger 23                       Pulled target
Eric C. 18                      Pulled target

Precharged:
Guy O. 43
Riz M. 42                      Pulled target
Ronnie 40
John L. 37                    added wrong by his friend doug
Bill H. 35                     Pulled target
Manny 34 (hunter style) Pulled target
Greg T. 32                   Pulled target
Lonnie 31
George 21
*Update - the scores needed to be adjusted. This is the corrected final version

In PFT it was all Ronnie and Rizalde. I brought my Maruauder pistol but I knew these guys have there PFT rigs set-up and ready to shoot so I laid out a course that would be challenging for them. Everything was 25 yards or less, but there were some tight kz's to be dealt with. 5/8" Buzzard, 1/2" weasel, and the 1/2" Bear were on the course. At first, I thought I may have over done it because I could hardly hit anything myself. but it was a tight race to the last target and these two guys definately had their game on!

After Ronnie finished the last lane they both and only dropped 3 shots. Rizalde had to clean all three targets in order to stay in contention. I could feel the concentration just watching him. Each target went down with authority.... Time for a Shoot off!!

They were a little resistant, but I inisisted. After all, there were some personal bragging rights on the line. So, I moved our 5/8" buzzard out to 23 yards. Rizalde went first and just missed slightly and Ronnie was able to put it down on his try.

Pistol scores: /22

Ronnie 19 (1st in shoot off)
Rizalde 19
Lonnie 8
