The Annual Fathers Day Match 6/19/2011 by Lonnie
It was a beautiful but toasty-warm summer California day. The new season is upon us and it showed. On the way into the range I spotted a momma turkey with about 15 chicks following her around. First time I've personally seen baby wild turkeys so I stopped to watch for a minute. Each year our June Match and Fathers day come together for some Field Target fun. This year was no exception with 18 shooters ready to rock and flop the metal quarry to its doom! Associate Match Director John L. led the charge with his newly mapped out course. With several members arriving early to pitch in, the course was set up "lickity split" and we got to splatting some lead on corridor #1 during the warm up. The wind was shooter friendly. The temps were warming quickly. A couple shooters barely made it in time for the start of the match. On the warm up line I noticed there were lots of spring piston guns in the mix. Made me wonder if there was a little nostalgia in the air that morning with so many traditional type airguns on a traditional Sunday like Fathers day. Here's a few pics during the match. Jim C. from Sacramento area Adam here shot his first FT match at our "golf match" and came back for more. He shot a pretty respectable score for a newcomer to FT but doing it from the standing position was impressive! Riz barely making the match with a brand new gun (T-rod)unsighted and he still managed to squeeze a pretty decent score. Thats a talented gentlemen here folks! Kevin and Matt working with one of our new shooters. Jim R. brought the cookies and the lead hunter score today! After the match we of course had some customary BBQ. Hot links and Burgers were on the grill, fresh fruit for a side, and cookies for dessert. And.. despite the special holiday, I can't deny that there were some of us men, whom could be-knownst to be dad's, partaking in some post match plinking after lunch.... Life is good when you love to shoot airguns baby! Riz's new tactical Marauder ("T-rod") with its telepathic trigger! Some pretty outstanding shooting this match. We had a few visitors and a couple first timers. Dan and Adam, thanks for comming out and spending the day with us. Terry D. it was nice to have you out here from Reno to.
