This year seems to be rolling right along. Its already August!! That means summer is about to start winding down... Kids are heading back to school... the NFL preseason games start... and QVC's Christmas in July is over. (whew!) Of course they move right along with it anyway but something about that happening in July just unsettles me. Maybe if they sold airguns on QVC I'd be more into it. Hee hee!! Thank goodness for Field Target!! Where at least one weekend per month we can get away and have some shooting fun. I particularly was looking forward to the events this month as I was eager to shoot my new .177cal Marauder and try some true hunter style FT shooting for the first time. On the broader picture however, As I drove the 90 minute trek to DRGC I found myself appreciating the clubs members. This season has been particularly dotted with change and transition within our club. A new Field Target Match Directors committee was formed as Jonathon Reyes stepped down from his Directors position. Mike A. and Dennis W. have committed themselves to resurecting our Rod and Gun clubs silouette program. Weve also had numerous new shooters participating in our FT matches. There's been a lot going on but several members have stepped up and worked together to make it run smoothly. From course set-up and clean up, to event planning, loaner rifles and pistols, photos, potlucking & bbq, ...etc I can't express enough how much we appreciate the the contributing efforts of our participants. On to the match.... The weather was looking a little ugly in the early am. I was driving through thick fog and drizzle from my location. It was starting to look like another cold wet day like we had earlier in the year. But, by the time we got started the marine layer thinned out and it wasn't long before we had sunny skys. And... to our pleasant surpise, not much wind to contend with. Thanks to all the early help on hand, the course was set by 9:15am and the practice line filled quickly. This season weve had a lot of spring piston shooters and that trend continued for this match as well. Out of 14 participants we had 10 piston and 4 PCP shooters. Even though most felt the course was slightly more difficult than last month we had some great shooting going on. Some personal bests were achieved! We had a few scores not turned in but standings for August are : Piston: Paul B. 40 Son L. 38 Rizalde M. 35 Eric K. 22 Doug B. 21 Dennis W. 20 Eric C. 12 Frank ? Al ? Pcp: John L. 43 Lonnie S. 38 Hunter style Richard A. 33 Hunter style Dougalss 19 After the match we did some grillin and chillin. Rizalde shared some tales of working on his custom .177 Marauder (pics below). We tentatively were to have a PFT match after lunch but with the efforts being put in by Boomer and Dennis up at the MPR for the silouette program I recomended that some of the the shooters to go check that out instead. Others stuck around for some plinking and airgun shop talk on corridor one. Here's some photos. Rizalde's DIY stock he finished and inletted. Check out his inlayed rail and accent piece!! That trigger is nice to! Lonnie Smith Associate Match Director DFTC
